THE NEW YEAR APPROACHES

Shilling, N. E. IndiaDecember 4, 2007

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As we anticipate the New Year, I can but praise God for the wonderful way you have held up our hands during 2007, by your prayers and gifts of love in order that we might train native Christians in their own lands to win souls for Jesus.  Not only so, but your gifts and offerings toward God have also helped us in a great way to fund a very effective domestic mission program by providing good books and tracts at no charge for churches and individuals across America.  We receive letters from the “four corners” of the country about these materials (see the enclosed sheet for your use) being used in classes, fair booths, in prison work and even carried to Africa, and other lands.  Two such letters are below; but first, one from Peter Wilson (Mercy’s husband) about our on-going work to help indigent widows in India.  (JW)

 A REPORT FROM PETER WILSON

Note:  Off and on over several weeks Peter and two other brothers traveled over a wide area in two states to deliver goats for widows.  They purchased 108 goats for the households of 17 widows at a cost of $3,660.26.  They also purchased two cows with calves ($595) for two other sisters, sent funds ($589) for a well at one of the Bible schools, paid $93 for the wiring of a blind brother’s house, paid $122 to do the same for a widow’s house and gave $89 to a poor preacher to help him get a small broiler business started.  Here is his report.

Subject: WIDOWS DETAILS & PHOTO

Dear brother,

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

By God's grace we have finished goat purchasing trip this time successfully. God saved (protected) all of our trips.  We are sending details and photos for the widows as an attachment. In some areas the cost of goats was more at the time because of some festivals. In some other areas the rate was good.   Some times we purchased goats in one place totally and distributed them, then gave the balance of money to the widow.  For each widow received some pregnant goats.

We reminded them about (1) raising goats by only selling the male kids, (2) giving offering to Lord on the Lord's day as they received God's blessing, and (3) giving the first kid for God.  They happily accepted this.  We trust in the Lord that they will raise them in good way and Lord will provide them many fruits.   They are so much thankful for the brothers and sisters who helped them.  We are also thankful to you for giving us the opportunity to go and purchase goats for these widows.   We hope this is a blessed work in Lord.  Thanking you so much in Christ.

Your brothers in kingdom, K. Murugesan, C. Kuppusamy and M. Peter Wilson

THE EFFORT TO PROVIDE GOOD MATERIALS

FOR DOMESTIC MISSION EFFORTS CONTINUES TO PAY DIVIDENDS

Below are two letters that illustrate the powerful effect this literature work is having across the country.  Randall and Shirley Standefer of Dunlap, TN are the ones who actually handle the work of distribution.  Here is a letter from him about just one of the books, Fundamentals of the Faith by Jerry Frazier, a brother who obeyed the gospel while in prison.

Dunlap, TN, Sat, 1 Dec 2007

Dear Brethren:

I talked with Charles White, who is in Whitwell (TN) to conduct a funeral tomorrow, and has been using the “Fundamentals” in a prison ministry in Valdosta (GA) and North Florida prisons.  He has been amazed at the general response of prisoners, such as, "Man I can connect with this man."  Charles stated several had been baptized.  I am sure Jerry will be glad to know of the good he is doing.

May HE continue to bless you richly,

Randall

Subject:Books needed for Prison ministry

Dear Brother Standefer,

I would again like to request some of the “Fundamentals” book be sent to brother Rickey Lomax at the address below.  Due to the turnover at the Wayne County Boot Camp Prison, we need about 500 copies or whatever would be close to that in order to fill the box(s) so that no air is shipped and as little additional packaging is needed.  If you have any questions you can reach me at the following numbers below.  Please let me know when these can be shipped.  Thank you.

In His Blessed Name,

MORE PERSECUTION IN MANIPUR, N. E. INDIA

Three months ago I wrote about nine denominational leaders issuing an order to our brother, Khulen Kom, to quit preaching about the church of Christ in their area.  He and Joshua, who helps him in the Bible School ignored that order.  Here is a recent note from Joshua.

Dear brother Jim E. Waldron,

I greet you in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Brother, more souls were added to the Lord’s church. Date 17-Nov.-2007: recently (November 17 and 18) we have had three young men baptized.

They belonged to the Baptist church.  Some of the newly converted brothers faced severe persecution from their family members. One brother, ______ ____ was beaten severely by his family members and even threatened to be put to death, if he continues in the faith.  So, he is now staying with my family, as he requested to stay with me for a while.  Brother we need your help in prayer for the newly converted souls as well as for me that I will have more zeal and courage to preach and teach the gospel to others.

In Christian love, N. Joshua Kom

It is not just something for me to say when I say this work of training preachers, helping the truly poor and distributing good literature could not be possible without you.  Your gifts and prayers mean that I can do the leg work.  Please pray for me.  May our Lord bless you and your children in the New Year.

With love to all,

Jim E. Waldron
