DOING ALL THINGS POSSIBLE TO TRAIN PREACHERS

AND SPREAD THE GOSPEL

As I mentioned last month , brother Khulen Kom, who lives in Manipuri, N.E. India, is supported by the New Union Church of Christ, near Manchester, TN.  In the same report a letter was included from a church counsel made up of clergy and “laymen” from Baptist and Presbyterian churches.  The counsel had threatened brother Kom with “trouble” if he did not “stop his Church of Christ ministry” in their area.  But like the apostles and prophets of biblical times he was not frightened into silence.  Here is a portion of a letter from him of November 2,

Brother Jim E. Waldron

Greetings to you in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  I hope you and your family doing well by His grace.  We pray for your health and your ministry to all over the world.  We name our school as “Eastern School of Evangelism.”  It is going well by His grace.  We have converted at least 7 souls through this school.  I strongly can say that we will convert many, many souls through this school.  Five more persons baptized into Christ on the last 28, 29th October 2007.

Four of them (are) from Hindu background and N. Alwin is from Baptist church at Sagang Lairamwangma (Lai-ram-wang-ma).  In His service, L. Khulen Kom, preacher, Sagang Church of Christ, Manipur, India.

Last month we bought a computer for this new Bible school so that brother Joshua Kom (no relation to brother Khulen) can translate and type our English study books into the Kom language.  Joshua, as I noted before, is a 2004 graduate of the Bible Institute in Shillong and is supported via Crossville as a teacher with the school.  This illustrates how with your help we are endeavoring to train as many faithful servants as we can to reach the masses who are without Jesus.  This makes six states in India where we are working with faithful brethren to have schools of preaching.  “For the night cometh when no man can work” (John 9:4).  May God receive all the glory.

SPREADING THE WORD IN OTHER PLACES

Here is another example as to how co-operation with another church leads to blessings.  Binod Dakal is supported by the church at Jurong in Singapore. Twice in the last two years I have journeyed to the upper regions of the state of West Bengal, Northern India to meet Binod and about two dozen other gospel preachers in a small hotel in the town of Boghdogra.

Each time we conducted Bible lectures with brother Binod doing the translation.  These brethren have urged me to begin a school of preaching in their area and it is needed, but just now we do not have the money.  Two things that have been done is to have the commentary on Revelation (The Lamb/The Lion) printed in their language and to buy bicycles for them.

Having thanked us earlier for the bicycles Binod wrote again on November 1, telling of a week’s meeting held with brother Eddie Ee, who is from the Jurong church (Singapore) and has been to visit these brethren on at least two occasions.  Here is Binod’s letter of November 1, 2007, so that you may see the diversity of those being brought to Christ.

“Dear brother Jim,  Greetings in the name of our Saviour Jesus Christ. We have just finished our diverse kinds of meetings (1st International Bible Lectureship, Preachers & Ladies training, Gospel meetings).  We have good news that is 9 souls added into the Lord’s kingdom in Gospel meetings.  They are:

Please pray for these new babes in Christ.  May God bless you.  Binod Dakal”

GARRY JONES AND DON IVERSON

Through the tender mercy of our heavenly Father I turned 72 on November 4, and as many know for some years there has been a need for someone to be available to fill the gap in the event that I drop dead or otherwise become incapacitated for this work.  Don Iverson has, since 1997, been the first line of defense in this matter, but now Garry Jones of Clinton, TN has also committed himself to being involved fulltime in this work.  Both Don and Garry are 53.

The latter is a native of Georgia, but moved to Clinton, TN in 1995.  For nine years he preached for the Clinton congregation.  He also served for more than three years as principal of the Knoxville Christian School.  Garry and his wife Cindy have three daughters and five grandchildren with another on the way.  The Clinton elders have taken on his sponsorship.  At this writing (November 5), he is in India where he has been since September 21st.  While there he went to N.E. India where he visited the preacher training school in Dibrugarh, Assam, spoke for them, then taught in Shillong during October.  For the last ten days he has been in Tamil Nadu in the deep-south of India doing village evangelism with brother J. W. Samson serving as interpreter.  Brother Jones’s return to the States is scheduled for November 8.   He is still in need of those who will help him with wages (See II Cor. 11:8) and his work fund for travel, student support, etc.  His plans are to return to India in late January.  Please contact Mike Smith, Clinton elder for further information at P. O. Box 1126, Clinton, TN 37717 or phone 865-567-7872.

The fact that both these brothers are involved full time does not mean that I will slack off.  I came home on the 2nd of October and will leave for Shillong by November 26, to teach the book of Revelation during December, then go to meet brothers in other states to see about the possibilities of SOPs in other places.  During the time here I have travel every Sunday and Wednesday promoting this work of training native brethren to reach their own with the gospel. By the time I leave I will have spoken for 23 congregations.  I would like to have visited other congregations, but I must return to Asia.  This is the time of year that churches consider their budgets, if you will please speak to them about our determination to keep on training men to preach the unsearchable riches of Christ.  It is costing $65 a month to train a brother in a school.

With love for all,
