BULLETIN BRIEF
Vol. 9 October 2006 No. 10 |
|
Hollywood, the political left, the ACLU and the main stream media in this country have made it appear that homosexuality, promiscuity, abortion, evolution, etc., constitute pillars of moral stature for the nation. Anyone who speaks out against such things as “gay marriage,” starlets having babies out of wedlock, the ripping of other babies from their mothers’ wombs or condemning the voodoo science that man came through a series of monkeys and apes is a right-wing radical and should be shouted down.
Not only so but anyone suggesting that we should not vote for those who uphold these things is said to be meddling in politics. Concerning such issues one writer has recently written,
“Now they are killing babies, next they will be killing old people. These babies are unwanted by their mothers, next it will be the old people who are unwanted by their families because they are too much trouble or especially if they have Alzheimer's. They are already heading in that direction — by way of assisted suicide, e. g., Oregon. Don’t be skeptical and think it won’t happen!!”
Even in the church individuals often oppose the preaching against abortion, homosexuality, etc., saying we should not preach on politics.
Yet, men of God through the centuries have boldly preached on moral issues whether or not they had become political footballs. Note the following: . DID THE MEN OF GOD AVOID MORAL QUESTIONS BECAUSE THEY HAD BECOME POLITICAL ISSUES? Jim E. Waldron
“For John had said to Herod, ‘It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.’ Therefore Herodias held it against him and wanted to kill him” (Mark 6:18-19). One might well imagine the words of that proud lady, That loud mouth preacher has no business butting his nose into the affairs of our government, I have a legal divorce from Philip (Josephus, Antiquities of the Jews, Book 18, Chapter 5:4) and Herod does too from his wife (Ibid, Chapter 5:1) and I want “John the Baptist’s head here on a platter” (Matt. 14:8).
Israel’s highest court, the Sanhedrin, “called the apostles (Peter and John) and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus” (Acts 4:18). Their answer was “we must obey God rather than men.” From Acts five we learn from the lips of the chief executive officer of Israel just why this ordinance had been made. “The High Priest asked them (the apostles) saying ‘did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood on us” (Acts 5:27-28). It was a political question to them because they feared the people (Mark 11:32; 12:12).
Moses wrote, “You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way; for every abomination to the Lord which he hates they have done to their gods; for they burn even their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods” (Deut. 12:31). Can anyone imagine someone saying to Moses, “We are not interested in hearing your political views on whether or not someone has the choice to kill their own babies.”
Again Moses wrote, “you shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination” (Lev. 18:22). The apostle Paul wrote of Gentiles of his day—many of whom were political leaders in Rome, “the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what was shameful …” (Rom. 1:27). “And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the Lord cast out before the children of Israel” (I Kings 14:24; cf., 15:12; 22:46; Lev. 18:22; Rom. 1:27). ABORTION ??A POLITICAL ISSUE??
Note: The information in this article is a condensation of a report on a court case brought by the ACLU and others to block the law which was designed to stop partial birth abortions by Mrs. Cathy Clever Ruse. Because of the horrible things that are being done to pre-born babies by abortion doctors, which was testified to under oath, I have only given one or two references to those sadistic practices. It made me cry and cringe in my stomach. Her full report may be found on the internet at www. nrlc.org/abortion, then type in her name; but be aware that you too will cry and cringe at the sadistic pain being put on babies that are dying because they are un-wanted for social and economic reasons. The CDC reports that 93 percent of all babies killed before they leave the mother’s body are for those two reasons (www.nrlc.org/aboution/facts).
After the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act had passed by the U.S. Senate and House in the fall of ‘03 it was signed into law by president George W. Bush in November that year. The ink had hardly dried when Planned Parenthood, the National Abortion Federation, and a number of abortion doctors aided by the ACLU became plaintiffs against it and challenged its constitutionality in three federal lawsuits in New York, Nebraska, and California.
“The New York trial was presided over by Judge Richard Conway Casey. Judge Casey, appointed to the federal bench by President Clinton, was not a judge from the pro-abortion-activist mold. He pressed the abortion doctors on the stand to use plain language when discussing their acts, he probed them about fetal pain …” Their testimony was brutal and much of it includes technical.descriptions of otherwise common acts, such as ‘disarticulate the calvarium’ rather than ‘cut off the head.’
“Each of the plaintiffs’ witnesses was well-versed in the grisly art of abortion.” One of these Dr. Timothy Johnson, chairman of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Michigan Medical School testified that he had performed second-trimester dismemberment abortions and observed partial-birth abortions. He testified from his own experience about performing dismemberment abortions and gave his opinion about the partial-birth abortions, which he had observed. “Dr. Johnson described observing how doctors who did partial- birth abortions “used a crushing instrument to deliver the head.” At this point Judge Richard Conway with some pointed questions required Dr. Johnson to describe in plain English the cruelty and pain inflicted on the weakest little creatures in the human family.
THE ISSUE OF FETAL PAIN
The only pain expert at trial was Government witness Dr. Kanwaljeet Anand. Dr. Anand testified that “fetuses that are beyond 20 weeks of gestation can feel pain.” He explained why the partial-birth abortion procedure will cause “prolonged and excruciating pain to the fetus” beyond 20 weeks of gestation: “Given the increased sensitivity to pain at that period of gestation, ... the surgical incision made at the back of the head, the puncturing of the intracranial cavity through . . . the membranes that covered the brain, all of those parts of the procedure would be associated with prolonged and excruciating pain to the fetus.”
The transcripts in their entirety can be found online at http://www.usccb.org/proflife/index.htm.
That He hates, “hands that shed innocent blood” (Pro. 6:17). And He condemned the apostate Israelites because they “shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; and the land was polluted with blood” (Psa. 106:38). And He told his preachers, “Cry aloud, spare not; lift up your voice like a trumpet; tell my people their transgression …” (Isa. 58:1).
NOVEMBER ELECTIONS
As the 2006 election time draws near we should remember “supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings, and for all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (I Timothy 2:1-2).
Here are some things for which we should pray: ¨ For the 6.5 billion souls who need the gospel (Mark 16:15-16). ¨ For rulers, especially our own President, our Senators, and our Representatives. ¨ For the police and military, especially for the young men and women who are on the front lines fighting the anti-Christ forces in Islam. ¨ For men and women of integrity to be elected to the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives who will vote for the marriage amendment and protect the fruit of the womb in this land of life and liberty.
