CIRCULAR REASONING IN

THE BOOK OF MORMON

Jon Gary Williams

The book of Mormon closes with an appeal to pray to God asking Him to reveal that the book is true.  An assurance is then given that if one is “sincere” God will “manifest” that it is true (See Moroni 10:4).

However, this is circular reasoning.  First, after assuming (expecting) the Book of Mormon to be true, one is to then ask God to reveal that it is true.  So to establish the proof of this book, one must first accept it to be true!    Such logic is completely worthless but is typical of the subjective nature of Mormon religion.

In contrast, the Bible is an objective revelation and needs no subjective confirmation.  It is not necessary to ask God to reveal its authenticity through a separate source, for it stands on its own merits.  However, the Book of Mormon cannot so stand and this deceptive effort to create faith in the book exposes its author as a perpetrator of a hoax.

Note:  Those who follow Joseph Smith or Muhammed have no hope for both are dead and their followers know it, but our Lord Jesus is alive and will judge all including those two (Acts 17:31).  This is an excerpt from Jon Gary Williams’ expose’ of Mormonism.  It has been highly commended by an association of former Mormons in California.  It is written in a courteous spirit of love, but in a bold way to expose this human system of error.

WAKE UP TO THE THREAT OF ISLAM

Walter Pigg

Islam from its beginning (early part of the seventh century A.D.) has spread by the edge of the sword, it has grown by the sword, and it is still using the sword (violence) to further its evil cause and accomplish its mission — conquest of the world.

Solid evidence of the continuing resurgence of the Islamic religion has been seen in many parts of the world recently.  A rash of riots came about as a result of twelve cartoons published by the Danish newspaper Jyllends-Posten, Sept. 30, 2005.  These cartoons involved the so-called prophet Muhammad, depicted in an unfavorable way.  The cartoons were published in places other than Denmark.

One cartoon has Muhammad wearing a bomb-shaped turban.  In another one, Muhammad tells dead suicide bombers that he has run out of virgins with which to reward them.  These two cartoons are not far-fetched, as some would have us believe.  The terrorists in general are carrying out what Muhammad teaches in the Koran.  It is a matter of fact those who are killed in the support of Islam are promised virgins (cf. Koran, Surah ‘chapter’ 56:22-38). Why should Muslims get so outraged when the reality of their religion is made known?

This recent rioting in several countries by the Muslims help to clear up some misunderstandings on the part of many as to the extent of Islamic power.  Time after time we hear people touting the idea that Islam has been “hijacked” and that by a “few radicals.”  In this recent rioting more than “just a few” were involved.  It is true that the clerics and imams stir up the rank and file Muslims, but even so, more than “a few” are involved.  This is what Islam is about.  People who do not think for themselves are easily led by those who lead them, regardless of the direction taken by the leaders.  A case in point is that of the followers of Hitler and his evil actions.

A matter of which we should take note is that many newspapers and other sources have taken up Islam’s gripe in a defensive way.  Denmark has been criticized far and wide, because of the cartoons.  Denmark’s society is very secular, but even those who are in no sense religious can see some of the errors of Islam.

Mockery of Christ can occur and there is little outrage.  A supposed picture of the virgin Mary with cow dung on it doesn’t cause riots in many countries.  Why does criticism of Islam cause such an outrage:  Is this not an indication of the power and influence of Islam?

A serious question which deserves an answer.  If it is true that Muslims are generally peaceful people and only a few are “radical,” why do the supposed-to-be peaceful Muslims not stage riots and go all-out to condemn the terrorist activities of Muslims.  Yet, it is very little that we hear by way of condemning the murder of innocent men, women and children by the Muslims, and this is happening on a regular basis.  Could it be that the true Muslim, who knows the teaching of the Koran, knows that this type of activity is characteristic of Islam?

The influence of Islam is such that most news sources are afraid to publish the twelve cartoons which have caused such an uproar.  To have people fear speaking out against the evil of Islam could not play better in the hands of the Muslims.  Not many newspaper columnists speak out forcefully as to the reality of Islam.  However, a few are unafraid to “tell it like it is” with regard to Islam.  Cal Thomas and Suzan Fields are among those who tell us things we need to know about this religion.

Evil, of which Islam is an example, can hardly be stopped by either feeding it or fearing it.  By “feeding it,” we mean attempting to placate, pacify or appease.  A good example of that in world affairs was Neville Chamberlain of Great Britain, when he gave in to Hitler and his Germany.

Columnist Cal Thomas, writing with respect to the danger posed by Islam, said: “The good news is that they speak openly of their intentions.  The bad news is that many of us are not taking them seriously.”  When we reflect upon the actions of Muslims over the past few years, including 9/11, it could hardly have been said better.  Thomas also said that “what may be the greatest threat” is “radical Islam.”

There is no lack of evidence that Islam is a “radical religion.”  A point many fail to understand is that Muslims who are true to their so-called holy book are radical.  This is what the Koran teaches them to be.  This is one instance in which it is better for a religion to be liberal rather than conservative.  The liberal Muslim is not as likely to follow the Koran which clearly teaches Muslims to kill the “infidel” or “unbeliever”  (See Koran, Surah ‘chapter’ 9:5).

MOTHERHOOD

Ed. Note:  There was a time in this country when politicians proudly wore the mantle of being in favor of “motherhood and apple pie.”  Now-a-days there are politicians who have a whole vocabulary of words that illustrate their animosity toward motherhood as they vie with one another to protect the killing of unborn babies.  “Let us ‘translate’ some of the words of the pro-abortion crowd:

¨ Pro Choice — In favor of the right to choose to kill the unborn.

¨ Freedom of Choice — The legal right to choose to kill the unborn for any reason.

¨ People’s Rights — The “right” to choose abortion over the birth of a child.

¨ Lose Our Freedom — Lose the right to kill the unborn rather than letting them live.

¨ Pack The Court — To put people on the court who believe the Constitution does not give a mother a right to kill her unborn child.  Having a majority of judges who favor abortion is not ‘packing the court.’

¨ A Woman’s Right Over Her Own Body — The right to take the life of “another body,” the child in her womb, which is not “her body.”

¨ Women’s Reproduction Freedom — The freedom to stop “reproduction” by killing the living child while in the mother’s womb.

¨ Extreme View — That unborn children are human beings whose life should be protected.

“There is no reason to doubt the intentional use of such terminology and the reason for it.”  If such language is used, “People are not as likely to be reminded of the gruesome reality of the wanton murder of innocent children, that sometimes entails tearing them limb from limb and/or sucking out their brains…”  (Walter Pigg, Banner of Truth, 1131 Hickory Grove Road, Almo, KY  42020-9332, Feb. 06)

NEBRASKA ABORTIONS DECREASE

BY 11.5 PERCENT

Continuing a nationwide trend, the number of abortions in Nebraska declined by 11.5% between 2004 and 2005, to a total of 3,173 abortions.

The number is the second lowest since the state began tracking abortions in 1974, according to the Nebraska Health and Human Services System.

In the year after the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, there were 3,094 abortions in Nebraska.  Abortions continued to rise until 1990, when 6,346 unborn babies lost their lives.  After that, the numbers have steadily declined.

The state gathered other information in addition to abortion numbers.  When asked the reason for resorting to abortion, 2853 women cited socioeconomic concerns, which is 89.9% of the total.  Only 3 women claimed that the pregnancy threatened their life, while 67 cited maternal health reasons.  The average age of aborting women was 25.6 in 2005.

According to pro-life groups, changing attitudes among young people have contributed to the decline.  “Generation Y, the Millennials up to 24 or 25 years old, are much more inclined to see abortion as violence and as a failure,” Greg Schleppenbach, director of pro-life activities for the Nebraska Catholic Conference, told the Omaha World-Herald.  “They are more inclined to abstinence and spirituality.”
